ADU Viewer (Augmented Reality) 1.1.6

The ADU Viewer provides an augmented reality (AR) visualization of small-scale residential structures, offering users an opportunity to preview potential additions to their properties. This tool facilitates informed decision-making by allowing users to see how an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) might appear in their backyard, without incurring any costs during the planning phase. It is particularly useful for individuals contemplating the installation of a backyard dwelling, which may be referred to by various terms such as backyard house, granny pod, granny flat, secondary dwelling, carriage house, or other regional variations.

Users can choose from over 60 different house designs and sizes to identify those that best fit their outdoor space. Each model is a full-scale virtual replica, requiring a stable internet connection and sufficient download time to load the desired design before proceeding with placement.

The application allows users to utilize their mobile device to position the virtual ADU within their actual backyard environment. Features include:

• Walking around the virtual unit to view it from different angles, including passing through the walls (please be mindful of existing pools or other structures).
• Looking out of the ADU's windows to visualize the interior perspective once constructed.
• Entering the main house’s virtual space from the AR view to assess how the ADU integrates within the backyard setting.
• Locating key features such as bathrooms and kitchens within the design for functional understanding.
• Viewing California's minimal setback requirement of four feet, clearly indicated in green within the visualization.

This platform also serves as a directory for ADU designers and architects specializing in small homes. Developed by advocates of ADUs for industry professionals and property owners alike, it aims to support creative design and informed decision-making.
